You need not avoid eggs, but do not make three or four a daily habit
Each additional half whole egg daily was associated with about 7% higher mortality. Modeled replacement with egg whites, fish, poultry or nuts was associated with lower mortality. There is no need to quit eggs; the source cautions against three or four daily.
What it takes
No extra money or time.
What you may gain
A US cohort included about 521,000 people and 129,000 deaths. Each additional half whole egg daily was associated with risk ratio 1.07 (95% CI 1.06–1.08). Replacing that amount with equivalent egg whites, poultry, fish, dairy, or nuts and legumes was associated with lower overall mortality and lower cardiovascular, cancer and respiratory mortality.
Context & considerations
Findings are highly disputed: other large cohorts and meta-analyses find no association between eggs and mortality. US dietary guidelines removed the daily cholesterol ceiling. The source's advice is to avoid three or four eggs every day, without worrying about one daily.
