Leave if drugs appear; supplying a place or substance is not merely helping a friend

Grade A evidenceValue: High
In plain language

Chinese venues may not sell, supply or facilitate drug use. Violations can bring 3–6 months' closure and license revocation in serious cases. Personal use can attract public-security sanctions, while knowingly allowing drug use in your booked room or home can be criminal. Leave when someone offers unknown powder, pills or vape cartridges.

What it takes

Free. The hard part can be standing up and leaving in front of others.

What you may gain

The regulations prohibit selling/providing drugs and organizing, forcing, teaching, enticing, deceiving or accommodating others' drug use or injection. Staff may neither use drugs nor facilitate these acts. Police confiscate proceeds and unlawful property and order 3–6 months' rectification closure; serious cases lose the entertainment license. Halls and private rooms must display warnings against drugs, gambling and prostitution with reporting numbers.

Context & considerations

Do not stay to watch when someone produces unknown powders, pills or vape cartridges. Personal exposure can exceed the venue's administrative risk: use can be sanctioned, and knowingly hosting use in your room or home can constitute the offense of accommodating others' drug use.
